Azerbaijani Army Celebrates Day Of State Sovereignty With Commemorative Events

Following the directive of Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, a series of events unfolded on the occasion of the State Sovereignty Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, across the branches of the Azerbaijani army, military formations and units, and special military educational institutions on September 20, Trend reports via the nation's Defense Ministry.

Firstly, a moment of silence was observed to honor the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev and the sons of the homeland who became martyrs for freedom and territorial integrity.

During the ceremonies, a congratulatory message from the Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, addressed to the personnel of the Azerbaijani army, was read to the participants. The speakers noted that since the early 90s, Armenia, inspired by the support of foreign patrons, has been pursuing an occupation policy against our country, 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan was captured, crimes against humanity were committed against our people, cities and villages were left in ruins, our natural resources were plundered, and the most monstrous tragedy of our time was committed - the Khojaly genocide.

Another military aggression and provocations of the enemy were prevented during the 44-day Patriotic War and anti-terrorist measures on September 19, 2023, a historic victory was won, and our lands were liberated from occupation. The victories achieved during the 44-day Patriotic War, restored Azerbaijan's sovereignty, with the national flag now proudly flying across the entire country

In remembrance, army personnel visited the graves of martyrs, laying flowers to honor their memory.
