NATO begins largest military expansion since conclusion of Cold War

(MENAFN) In reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the United States committed on Wednesday to send additional soldiers, fighter jets, and warships to Europe as NATO began its largest military buildup since the Cold War.

Russia was identified as the " most significant and direct threat " to peace and security by the Western military alliance, which also pledged to expand its weaponry and ammunition deliveries to Kiev.

The building of a sizable new military post in Poland is going to make the effects of the NATO summit in Madrid most noticeable on the alliance's eastern frontiers.

The United States is adding to the 100,000 people currently present in Europe by sending additional warships to Spain, planes to Britain, weaponry to the Baltic nations, and troops to Romania. More German, British, and other ally forces are on alert to move eastward.

By the end of the next year, the alliance intends to approximately eightfold the strength of its fast reaction force, from 40,000 to 300,000 soldiers.
