Residents and tourists in Qatar will have an insight of the rich history of the French luxury design house, Hermès through its bags exhibition entitled Hermès Heritage - Part four: Once upon a bag which will be held at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) from May 28 to June 11.
Discover Hermès' past and the present through the exhibition which will be open from Saturday to Thursday from 9am to 7pm, and on Friday, from 1:30pm to 7pm. The admission is free.

This is the fourth chapter of the Hermès Heritage; the first part was held in California, USA entitled“Harnessing the Roots,” followed by“Rouges Hermès” in New Delhi in India, and“In Motion” in Hanoi, Vietnam.
According to Hermès, the Hermès Heritage cycle of touring exhibitions explores the story of Hermès from its origins to the present day. After Harnessing the Roots, Rouges Hermès and In Motion, the Once upon a bag exhibition opens on a new page dedicated to the bag. It forms an integral part of the Hermès signature with its close ties to the house's equestrian roots and founding know-how. The bag is the pursuit of a creative, artisan adventure.
“It expresses the spirit of the times, yet stands the test of time. Symbolising both memory and modernity, it is as much a protector of privacy as it is a representation of a way of life,” it added.
The exhibition begins with the history of the Haut a courroies bag which is Hermès firstborn, and appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. It was designed by Hermès to protect and transport saddles and riding boots. This ingenious and practical bag made life easier for riders and offered them an early expression of elegance. Its rigid flap folded flat against the rear of the bag creating a wide opening. The two saddle flaps were thus held in place by the straps, as if absorbed by the bag, like a sleight of hand.
Moreover, the exhibition will showcase pieces Sac pour l'auto which was later renamed to Bolide, meaning“racing car” in French. The idea was that the zip was able to keep valuables secured even travelling in a fast sports car such as Bugattis.
A dedicated section also displays different types of bags including clutches, ladies' bags, men's bags, travel bags, and sports bags.
