The University Of Belize Government Of Taiwan Commemorate Continued Partnership On Technical Expertise

BELMOPAN, Belize – The Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and the University of Belize Central Farm Campus (UBCF) enjoy mutual cooperation and friendship. Currently, Taiwan ICDF, through the“Breeding Sheep & Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project” hosts UBCF students at the National Sheep and Goat Genetic Improvement facility.

This facility and the project are a result of the joint cooperation between the governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan). It provides high-quality genetic stock to Belizean farmers and also serves as a hub for learning and outreach to farmers, extension personnel and students.

As part of their experience, UBCF students are exposed to theoretical and practical aspects of sheep and goat husbandry. The Taiwan ICDF resident sheep and goat experts guide students and provides hands-on experiences on relevant and updated skills such as nutrition, reproduction and health.

The University of Belize appreciates the cordial and professional assistance granted by Taiwan ICDF in assisting the technical development of its students. These skills will position UBCF students as leaders in the emerging sheep and goat industry in Belize.

José Abelardo Mai, minister of agriculture, food security and enterprise; Francis Fonseca, minister of education, culture, science and technology; His Excellency David Kuan-Chou Chien, ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Belize; Diego Tsai, Taiwan ICDF head of mission and Dr Vincent Palacio, president of the University offered their words of gratitude for the partnership and encouragement to students.

The ministry of agriculture, food security and enterprise, the ministry of education, culture, science and technology and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extend their best wishes to the students for successfully completing the trainings and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the friendship and cooperation between Taiwan and Belize.
