Dhaka : The runway at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital will open at night for 24 hours-flight operations from May instead of June.
Meanwhile, several hundred outbound passengers have been going through immeasurable sufferings due to the chaotic situation and mismanagement created as the airport kept its runway closed in the last five months from 12:00 am to 8:00 am every day from December 10, 2021.
The reason behind the runway closure is construction and expansion of taxiways for the Third Terminal taking place currently.
Every day, 28 airlines operate 90 to 100 flights, carrying around 15,000 passengers to different destinations from the Dhaka airport.
Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said the runway will be open for 24 hours flight operations from May as the ongoing work for construction of the high speed taxiway will be completed by end of April.
The CAAB Chairman said when the Third Terminal will be open by the end of 2023, many aircraft will come to the runway.
