The Police fired tear gas on students who were protesting near Parliament this evening.

The Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) staged the protest against the Government and the economic crisis facing Sri Lanka.

The protesters gathered in Kelaniya and walked towards Parliament, disrupting traffic on the way.

The protest march took place despite heavy rain experienced in and around Colombo.

A large Police barricade was placed bear Parliament to prevent the students were getting close to the Parliament complex.

However, the students managed to remove one part of the barricade as a result of which the Police fired tear gas and water. (Colombo Gazette)
