Tumoh provides over 1,700 qualified teachers

Doha: The educational programme 'Tumoh' run by Qatar University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has succeeded in providing a large number of qualified teachers to schools operating in Qatar. 

“The number of students graduated from Tumoh programme since its inception in 2012 reached over 1,700,” said Director of Teachers' Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Ahmed Al Jusimani.

Speaking in a Qatar TV programme, he said that during the last five years, from 2017 until now, 712 graduates of four-year educational programme 'Tumoh' joined the schools run by the Ministry. 

“The Ministry of Education and Higher Education made tremendous efforts in recruiting Qatari teachers including male and female,” said Al Jusimani.

He said that the Ministry is receiving strong support from Qatar University which is providing over 300 teachers a year.

“The Ministry is sponsoring Tumoh programme. The students who joined programme received monthly incentives during study and job-placement by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education after graduation,” said Al Jusimani. 

“The number of the graduates of College of Education of Qatar University reaches over 145 annually. The graduates of College of Education also receive jobs placement by the Ministry,” said Al Jusimani.

He said that graduates of Tumoh programme received job placement within a week after graduation.“Graduates of College of Education apply through the Employment Portal of the Ministry. 

As soon as they complete the procedures they receive appointment letter without any delay,” said Al Jusimani. 

According to a report posted on the website of the Qatar University, Tumoh programme aims to provide the local job market with qualified teachers.

The programme also aims to attract Qatari talents, as well as the children of Qataris and Qatar-born to encourage them to study in educational specialities, especially scientific disciplines, which will contribute to the development of the learning environment and meet the needs of local schools in various disciplines. 

The programme is included in the government scholarship programmes supervised by the Ministry of Labour.

Tumoh is part of Qatar's efforts to invest in human resources and build national capacities that lead the educational field in the country. 

The programme is part of an integrated system to upgrade the academic and professional level of teachers, which will reflect on the quality of educational outputs in schools and contributing to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The full-time program is consolidated by 120 credit hours spread over four years and the student will graduate with a bachelor degree accredited by the International Recognition Teacher Education.
