The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has stressed the importance of public vigilance regarding their security.

The MoI also noted that residents should endeavour to respect Qatar's laws, culture, and traditions and be responsible ambassadors of their home country.

During a webinar, yesterday on the theme, 'Crime Prevention is a Shared Responsibility,' Capt.Meshaal Mubarak Al Mansouri, Officer, Technical Office - North Security Department, said that despite Qatar being ranked among the safest countries globally, the onus is on everyone to ensure security is top-notch and not just the job of the police.

“The concept of the sense of security is not limited to the security personnel only but includes all members of society. The sense of security is a collective responsibility that benefits all members of society. Any threat or danger is not limited to a particular group or party, but rather goes beyond the effects of this danger or threat to include all components of society,” Al Mansouri said.

He also added that companies bear full legal responsibility in front of the law as it's a primary partner with the offender in the event of negligence from its side.

Companies must pay salaries on time to avoid delays, maintain security by protecting the lives of employees with safety procedures, food and appropriate accommodations and paying attention to the basic needs of employees at the workplace and outside.

“Companies should educate employees about the country's procedures and laws on an ongoing basis, provide security in the workers' accommodations, and install surveillance cameras to avoid theft and attacks,” Al Mansouri said.

He urged companies to inform the security agencies if any negative behaviour or suspicious activity is noted from the employees.

Besides, companies should carry out periodic maintenance for the housing and provide the requirements of the employees.

Speaking on handling huge sums of money, Capt Al Mansouri said those involved in finance and other money-related activities should use electronic services and avoid going around with huge sums.

“It's preferred to use electronic alternatives such as bank transfers or money exchanges and if it's essential to withdraw cash itself, we recommend not to leave these amounts in the vehicle while it is parked somewhere unattended.

“The persons dealing with bank transactions should be at a high level of security sense. Ensure that you are in the places covered by surveillance cameras while holding transactions. In case of withdrawing huge amounts from the bank, be keen to be vigilant on those who are around you and try to preserve the shapes of the people present around,” he said.

Capt Al Mansouri also warned against drunkenness, noting that anyone who imports, exports, manufactures, brings, sells or promotes alcohol or intoxicating drink shall be punished by imprisonment for three years and a fine not exceeding QR10,000.

He also stressed that the intentional destruction of others' property is punished with imprisonment for a term of not more than three years and a fine of not more than QR 10,000.
