Saudi Arabia's Minister to visit Brazil, Chile to enhance international presence in mining sector

(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia's Ministry of industry and Mineral Resources announced on Sunday that Minister Bandar bin Ibrahim Alkhorayef will embark on a two-week visit to Brazil and Chile to enhance the kingdom's international presence in the mining sector. This visit aims to explore and expand Saudi Arabia's investments and collaborations in mining and related industries.

During his trip to Brazil, Minister Alkhorayef will engage in discussions covering a range of topics including mining, food processing, and aviation. This visit underscores Saudi Arabia’s interest in broadening its industrial partnerships and fostering growth in these key areas. Following Brazil, the minister will travel to Chile, which is the world’s second-largest producer of lithium, to focus specifically on the lithium sector crucial for electric vehicle batteries. This aspect of the visit aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strategic objective to bolster its production capabilities in electric vehicles.

Minister Alkhorayef’s visit to Chile will include meetings with Mining Minister Aurora Williams and representatives from prominent mining companies such as Antofagasta and Codelco. Codelco, the state-owned enterprise, plays a significant role in the Chilean lithium sector and is actively seeking private sector partners to develop lithium projects. Among potential partners, Saudi Arabia’s Almar Water Solutions has expressed interest in collaborating with Codelco on the Maricunga lithium mining project, as indicated by their CEO in June.
