Qatar - Culture Minister: DIBF a great opportunity to promote reading

Minister of Culture, H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, affirmed that 31st Doha International Book Fair is a great opportunity to promote the culture of reading and move towards knowledge and science.

The Minister said, in statements on the sidelines of the opening of the exhibition, that this edition, despite being held in exceptional circumstances due to the Coronavirus pandemic, is the largest so far in the history of the exhibition, with the participation of 430 exhibitors from 37 countries distributed over 845 pavilions, pointing out that the exhibition which is in its 50th year after its beginning in 1972, represents the cultural leadership of the State of Qatar, and a continuation of its giving in the dissemination of culture and knowledge.

His Excellency pointed out that the exhibition pavilions were designed in a unique creative way, as this edition witnessed distinguished participation of Qatari publishing houses, as the Ministry of Culture was keen to support and exempt them from the estimated financial cost of renting the pavilions, and from the cost of services provided by the exhibition halls, as well as the participation of a number of ministries, especially the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry Endowments, the Ministry of Municipality, and other institutions such as Qatar Uni-versity, Qatar Museums, Qatar National Library, Al Jasra Cultural Center and others.

US is the honored guest for the current edition of the exhibition, on the occasion of Qatar-America Year of Culture 2021.

This allows visitors to discover different aspects of American culture and American intellectual production
