Ukraine, Denmark sign memorandum on joint ship construction

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Danish Ministry of Defense signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to develop and strengthen Ukraine's maritime potential.

The memorandum was signed during the official visit of Minister of Defense of Denmark Trine Bramsen to Ukraine on December 18, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine posted on Facebook.

“In particular, a multi-purpose shipbuilding project is planned within the framework of the Memorandum. Production will be completely localized in the territory of Ukraine, and more than 50% of the volume of orders will be fulfilled by Ukrainian enterprises,” reads the statement.

According to Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine has great potential for the development of shipbuilding: 'this includes access to the largest navigable rivers in Eastern Europe, formed port infrastructure, and most importantly – available shipbuilding capacities.'

“Future Ukrainian-Danish vessels will be built at a plant in Ukraine, using the best design practices of our Danish partners, as well as modern equipment. I'm looking forward to developing our cooperation with the Kingdom of Denmark, especially in high-tech projects,' Kubrakov said.

This project will be implemented with the support of the Government of Denmark and the Danish Export Credit Agency (EKF). The multimission vessels will be designed by Danish companies in accordance with the customer's requirements.

It is specified that the construction of the first ship MPV80 is expected to be completed by 2024.

“It will be able to perform dozens of functions, including search and rescue operations. A vessel will be equipped with advanced developments of high-tech specialized equipment from Danish manufacturers,” the statement reads.
