Zambia registers 1st cases of new COVID strain


(MENAFN) On Saturday, Zambia’s health minister announced that the country has discovered its first cases of the newly-detected Covid-19 strain, Omicron.

Based on Sylvia Masebo statement to reporters in the capital Lusaka, the variant was found in three citizens who tested positive for coronavirus during the previous week, two fully vaccinated individuals who traveled outside the country lately and a third unvaccinated individual with no history of external travel.

She stated, “the patients are two men and a woman. One of the men is asymptomatic, while the other two patients have mild flu-like symptoms,” mentioning that authorities have begun locating all the people they encountered.

Masebo declared that the government was strengthening surveillance and called on citizens to use precaution.
