Amman, Nov. 29 (Petra) -- CEO of Huawei Jordan and Lebanon Operations Jian Wang (Ethan) said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has made a historical transformation in services of all sectors in the Middle East and achieved economic diversity.
He added in a statement on Monday that the next generation of modern technology, such as 5G, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), large data, cyber security and networks played a major role in enhancing social development and boosting the Jordanian economy through depending on digital technology.
The Intelligent World 2030 report expected establishing more than 200 billion connections globally, and providing a 10GB per second connection for every individual, family and establishment by 2030, Jian noted.
He explained that Jordan is moving rapidly towards achieving digital transformation in all parts of the country, in accordance with the 'Vision2025' and 'Reach2025' initiatives, as the communication and information technology sector contributes to raising the GDP by 12 per cent.
Jordan's digital economy witnessed big growth, thanks to the ecosystem for local technical talents, despite the increasing gap in talents globally, where the Korn Ferry company for consulting noted that the lack of talents will reach more than 85.2 million people globally by 2030, which may lead to negative financial effects estimated at $8,452 trillion, he said.
Work should start to enhance local technical talents and build a consistent ecosystem for ICT talents in Jordan to move the digital economy ahead in the future, Jian said.
He called for cooperation to boost the ICT ecosystem through cooperation between the private and public sectors to enhance local talents, noting that Huawei had in the past two decades contributed to developing more than one million talents in the Middle East, 5,000 of which were from Jordan.
Huawei has cooperated with many educational institutions and partners in Jordan, including the Hashemite University, Yarmouk University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Balqa Applied University, to lay out special standards for talents, building alliances and bolstering local talents, the CEO said.
He added that the company is currently carrying out the 5th edition of the Huawei ICT competition with the participation of 300 Jordanians.
