Lebanese military detains illegal boatload of 91 individuals

(MENAFN) On Saturday, the Lebanese army stated it had stopped a boatload of 91 individuals counting Syrian and Palestinian immigrants from leaving Lebanon unlawfully.

The army stated, women and children were amongst the group caught on Friday by a navy patrol off the shore of Qalamoun in north side of the country.

It stated that the boat nearly sank in terrible weather and that all on the boat were saved and transferred to the coast.

The Republic of Cyprus, a European Union country just 160 kilometers (100 miles) away, is a familiar place for potential refugees attempting to take off of Lebanon, which is caught up in economic and political catastrophe.
