TPP commander killed in North Waziristan IBO


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: A commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan tribal district, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

The military's media wing said the security forces conducted an IBO in Mir Ali tehsil in North Waziristan. During the operation, TTP terrorist commander Safiullah was killed. Safiullah belonged to Mir Ali and he was reportedly involved in the killing of four women of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in February 2021 and the target killing of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) engineers in November 2020. He was also involved in planning and execution of improvised explosive device (IED) attacks on security forces, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.

The ISPR said security forces also recovered a huge cache of weapons and ammunition during the operation.

Terrorist attacks on security forces in Waziristan region have increased recently due to which the security forces have also stepped up IBOs to target terrorists.

On September 16, two terrorists were killed in an IBO in Razmak area of North Waziristan.

According to ISPR, the security forces received credible reports of the presence of terrorists in the area after which the operation was conducted. The security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the terrorists' hideout. An area clearance operation was launched to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area.

The Razmak IBO was conducted a day after seven soldiers were martyred and four others were injured, while five terrorists were killed in a clash in South Waziristan.

According to ISPR, an intense clash happed between the security forces and terrorists in Asman Manza area of South Waziristan. It said the security forces conducted IBO in the area on reported presence of terrorists. Five terrorists were killed in the operation.“During intense exchange of fire seven soldiers embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR said.

On September 14, two terrorists were killed in an IBO by the security forces in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan. According to ISPR, the security forces conducted the IBO after receiving credible information about the presence of terrorists in the area. It said two terrorists were killed during the intense exchange of fire between the two sides.
