Second edition of Sports Integrity Week concludes

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) QNA Geneva: The second edition of the Sports Integrity Week 2021, which was organised by the International Organization for Integrity in Sport (SIGA) and held over a five-day period, concluded on Friday via video conference.

The last day witnessed several important events, including the UEFA's re-affirmation of the SIGA system for evaluation, classification and independent verification known as Service.

UEFA's use of the evaluation system launched by 'SIGA' in June 2020 opens the door for sports federations to use the first-of-its-kind classification and evaluation system in the world, which evaluates the various aspects of integrity and governance in the work of institutions, bodies and sports federations at the level of implementation and compliance with the 2020 version of the SIGA International Standards.

Director of marketing for UEFA Guy-Laurent Epstein indicated that it was important for UEFA to adopt (Service) to become a role model in this field for sports federations in the world.

Vice-Chairman of the Board of SIGA Mohammed bin Hanzab said that the second edition of the Sports Integrity Week 2021 comes as an extension of the success of the first edition, stressing that all SIGA initiatives during the past five years have created a wide movement. This has put the issue of integrity in sport on the agenda of the international decision-maker.

He added that this demonstration created an unprecedented interaction through digital platforms in line with the precautionary measures and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver the most prominent message, which is to devote the protection of integrity in global sport as a legacy and a necessary requirement for the sustainability and protection of sport.

For his part, the President of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, Hamad bin Nasser Al Misnad, said that the event sends an important message that expresses the views of a large alliance of organisations around the world, with the aim of preserving sport to be always free from corruption.

He also said that the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority is proud to be part of the mission to enhance integrity and combat corruption and is keen to continue sharing its experience for the benefit of the entire coalition.

He also said that the ideas and principles contained in the Public Officials Integrity Charter are a set of behavioural standards that revolve around the values of seriousness, honesty, safety, objectivity, impartiality, efficiency, leadership, integrity, fairness, equality and transparency, which will be a precedent for maintaining integrity in the sports sector.
