Families of deceased health workers receive Shuhada Package

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan Tuesday distributed cheques of Rs7 million each among nine families of frontline health workers under Shuhada (martyrs) Package.

The cheques were distributed at a ceremony at the Chief Minister House. The cheques were given to relatives of Dr Shah Alam, Dr Faisal Qureshi, Dr Sultan Zeb, paramedic Gul Wasim, paramedic Munir Khan, paramedic Omar Jalal, technician Gul Aleem and class four worker Mumtaz Khan who lost their lives while performing their duties to provide best healthcare services to coronavirus patients at different hospitals.

So far, 10 families have been provided financial assistance under the Shuhada Package for frontline health workers who died of coronavirus.

The chief minister said on the occasion that the services of doctors, paramedics and nurses who were working on the frontline to save the lives of patients during the pandemic deserve great appreciation and their services will be remembered for ever.

Mahmood Khan hailed professional dedication and competence of health workers who sacrificed their lives while treating coronavirus patients. The chief minister said the KP government acknowledges unprecedented services of the health workers. He said financial assistance would be provided soon to the remaining families under the Shuhada Package. He assured that the KP government would announce more facilities to frontline health workers.

According to Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), 65 doctors have lost their lives to coronavirus in KP so far. Doctors and health staff are at increased risk of contracting coronavirus as they come in contact with various infected persons in hospitals. That is why corona vaccine was provided first to health workers in Pakistan.

On Tuesday, KP reported 18 coronavirus deaths and 186 more cases. The total caseload in KP has risen to 127,224 and death toll is 3,804. The caseload is highest in Peshawar.

Pakistan reported 2,989 recoveries during the last 24 hours, and the total has risen to 795,511 and the recovery rate is 90.1 percent.

It is widely believed that the actual number of coronavirus cases and deaths is much more higher as many people opt against corona tests and go for traditional ways of treatment.
