Afghanistan- Germany vows to support local employees amid withdrawal

German Defense Minister, Annegret Karm-Karrenbauer says that she wants to help bring local Afghan workers, who served with Germany's military as the its troops prepare to leave Afghanistan after two decades.
Germany has about 300 local employees who currently work for 1,000 German troops under NATO, The organization besides United States has vowed to pull out their troops from Afghanistan, starting from May 1st, Associated Press reported.
Kramp-Karrenbauer told German news agency DPA in comments published on Sunday, that she wants get the local employees to Germany, who may face danger after the withdrawal process is completed.
'We are talking here about people who in some cases have worked for years by our side, at danger to their own safety, also have fought with us and made their personal contribution,' she added, 'I see it as a deep obligation for … Germany not to leave these people behind unprotected now that we are finally leaving the country'.
Germany are planning to setup offices in Mazar-e-Sharif and Kabul to help process the cases, Germany has taken 781 of its local employees to safety since 2013.
'From my point of view, we have a changed situation because we are not talking about the rearrangement of a mission but about the end,' Kramp-Karrenbauer said.
She said, 'And that possibly means a different security situation and a different evaluation'.
Germany is expected to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by mid-August.
