Sri Lanka- Remains of missing father and son recovered

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The remains of a father and son who had been washed away while bathing in the Weli Oya in Kalupahana, Haldummulla yesterday have been recovered by the Military.

The Sri Lanka Army said the bodies of the two individuals were found following a search operation conducted for over 18- hours since last evening.

The incident had occurred when a family of four from Maharagama had stopped at the waterfall while enroute to Badulla for the New Year holiday season.

The father and two children are reported to have entered the water while the mother had gone to a nearby shop to buy snacks. They had thereafter gotten caught to a strong current and had been swept away.

The Army said the daughter had managed to hang onto a nearby bush with the help of other individuals in the area, while the father and son had drifted away due to the sudden increase in the water level due to heavy rains uphill.

A search operation had been conducted by the Army troops attached to the SFHQ-Central on the instructions of the Army Commander.

The remains of the two victims were found this morning after a search operation conducted since last evening. (Colombo Gazette)
