Moroccan FM, GCC chief discuss developing strategic partnership


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Nayef Al-Hajraf discussed the development of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the GCC states on Tuesday.
During a videoconference meeting, the two sides dealt with the ongoing mutual partnership established since 2011, Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
They also lauded the key steps made in this partnership and the decision on extending the joint action plan until 2024, it added.
Bourita stressed Morocco's readiness to continue action with the GCC Secretariat so as to develop the partnership to establish a new phase of cooperation and cement a new framework that boosts relations in varied domains, it noted.
He extolled common bonds between Morocco and the GCC countries, stressing his country's support to the Gulf countries' security and stability, pointing to Morocco's rejection to any threats to the GCC member states.
Meanwhile, Al-Hajraf affirmed the GCC firm stance backing Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara and territorial integrity, according to the statement.
The issue of the Western Sahara should be resolved within the framework of Morocco's sovereignty over its territories, he noted.
In addition, Al-Hajraf commended efforts of King Mohammad V1 of Morocco, head of (al-Quds) Jerusalem committee, in defending the special status of Jerusalem and its historical identity as land of coexistence between religion, and protecting the city's Islamic character as well as preserving the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
