Jordan- WHO donates 15 vehicles to Ministry of Health


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Feb. 14 (Petra) - The World health Organization (WHO) office in Jordan on Sunday provided two refrigerator trucks and 15 small vehicles to transport regular and COVID-19 vaccines and 200,000 rapid test kits to support the Kingdom's national vaccination program.
The donation is provided through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (Madad Fund).
Minister of Health Natheer Obeidat praised the "true" partnership with the EU and the WHO/ Jordan office's efforts to support to the health sector, especially the response to the coronavirus pandemic.
He pointed out that the donation will "greatly" facilitate vaccine delivery to target groups while saving time and effort for all stakeholders.
The EU has allocated 43 million euros to support Jordan's primary health care services; about 14 million euros of which are earmarked to strengthen a national preparedness and response plan to support most vulnerable Jordanians as well as Syrian refugees.
"Solidarity in these difficult circumstances is the key to overcome Covid-19", said EU Ambassador Maria Hadjitheodosiou in Amman, noting that the EU has continued to support Jordan since the beginning of the crisis.
She added: "We continue our support for the Ministry of Health's efforts to overcome obstacles to vaccine distribution by providing the necessary equipment to ensure their delivery to all parts of the Kingdom, especially to the most vulnerable groups."
In turn, WHO Representative to Jordan Maria Cristina Profili said: "We support the Ministry of Health's efforts to improve the infrastructure for the delivery of vaccines and their use by the most vulnerable groups. This support will also allow the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccines."
