Bulgaria: 2,820 kg of drugs confiscated in 2020

(MENAFN) An amount of 2,820 kg of drugs had been confiscated last year by Bulgaria's National Customs Agency (NCA), a rise by 27 percent annually, said the customs on Tuesday, Jan. 26.

The NCA stated in its yearly report that around 2,230 kg of marijuana was confiscated Bulgaria's borders, or higher by 32 percent in comparison with 2019.

A considerable rise in cocaine confiscations last year -- 225 kg, in comparison with only 3 kg in the previous year was reported by the agency. It stated that around 183 kg of the cocaine was confiscated in 2020 in two cases in containers with merchandise arriving from South America.

According to the report, the coronavirus crisis and linked travel constraints, nonetheless, have led to significant changes in heroin trafficking to Western Europe.
