Turkey, Greece continue discussions after tension in eastern Mediterranean

(MENAFN)According to diplomat source, Turkey and Greece continued discussions planned at addressing long-standing maritime disputes, after months of tension in the eastern Mediterranean.
The neighboring countries, which are both members of the NATO military alliance, made little improvement in 60 rounds of discussions from 2002 to 2016.
Programs for continuing talks foundered previous year over Turkey’s deployment of a survey vessel in contested Mediterranean waters and disagreements over which topics to cover.
Ankara and Athens the current month to restart discussions in Istanbul, in a test of Turkey’s aims of developing its ties with the European Union, which has helped EU-member Greece and threatened sanctions on Turkey.
