Gunmen kill three soldiers in western Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- At least three Afghan soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in an attack by unidentified gunmen on their vehicle in the western Herat province, officials said on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the provincial police chief, Abdul Ahad Walizada in a statement to the media said that the incident happened in the center of Herat city.
"The gunmen have escaped from the area," Walizada said, adding that "investigations are ongoing into the incident."
Earlier on Tuesday, at least four Afghan forces members and 15 Taliban fighters were killed in clashes in the northern Kunduz province.
The attacks come at a time Afghanistan and the Taliban group agreed on procedural rules during peace negotiations in Doha, Qatar, that were stalled over differences on ground rules for the talks. (end)
