Brazil: Police detain 11 for animal trafficking

(MENAFN) On Friday, Dec. 4, 11 wildlife traffickers were detained by Brazil's police and around 200 animals fixed for illicit sale were saved.

The Federal Police at a press symposium stated that, the suspects are accused of illicitly selling the animals via social media.

A number of these animals are rare species caught in the Amazon rainforest, comprising macaws, toucans, monkeys and reptiles like caimans, the police stated.

According to the police, the suspects are also charged of "endangering public health," as some of the caught species are carriers of zoonoses, or illnesses that are infectious from animals to humans.
