HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies Symposium Highlights Qatar’s Legislative and Judicial Efforts to Protect Workers’ Rights


(MENAFN- Hamad Bin Khalifa University) In keeping with its commitment to foster intra-disciplinary dialogue, the College of Islamic Studies (CIS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently hosted a symposium titled Labor Rights in Qatari, Regional and International Legislation, which highlighted Qatar’s ongoing legislative and judicial efforts. Expanding on the role of legislation and judicial applications across different categories of workers, a distinguished panel featured Hon. Judge Khalid Bin Saad Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Hamar, Deputy Head of the Court of Appeal, Qatar; Attorney Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Muhannadi, a member of the International Anti-Corruption Academy; Dr. El Mokhtar Amara, Faculty of Law, Salé, University of Mohammed V, Rabat, Morocco; Dr. Abdullah Al-Hamidat, College of Law, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, Jordan; and Dr. Mohamed El-Gammal, Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at CIS. A second panel tackled public policies and legislation and their role in preserving the system of moral values in society, and featured Dr. Ahmed Aref, Policy Research Institute, University of Bath, UK; Dr. Anwar Al-Musaada, Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College, Qatar; Dr. Nashaat Al-Masafa, Police Training Institute, Ministry of Interior, Qatar; and Dr. Ferdous Al-Roshi, Interdisciplinary College, Safi, Morocco.

This symposium was held as part of a research project conducted by the CIS entitled “Expatriate Workers: Obligations and Rights in light of Legal Systems and Ethical Charters”.
