Qatar- QU, National Traffic Safety Committee launch traffic safety award


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Qatar University and the National Traffic Safety Committee launched 'The Traffic Safety Award for the State of Qatar during a ceremony held at Qatar University on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, General Traffic Department Director Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Shahwani, National Traffic Safety Committee Secretary Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al-Maliki, QU-CENG Dean Dr Khalid Kamal Naji, QTTSC Director Dr Mohammed Yousef Al Qaradawi, and a number of representatives of the participating institutions.

In his speech, QU President Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham said 'We are meeting today to value the efforts involved in the success of traffic safety initiatives, as well as to continue achieving the goals of the National Traffic Safety Strategy 2018-2022. We cannot neglect that traffic safety is built on the foundations of a vision. Each year approximately 1.35 million people die on the roads around the world and between 20 and 50 million others are exposed to various injuries that can lead to disabilities as well as other losses.

In his speech, Brigadier General Muhammad Abdullah Al-Shahwani, Director of the General Traffic Department and Second Deputy Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said, 'To continue to work for the sake of improving the traffic safety system in the State of Qatar, I value your endless and intensified efforts in support of activities and projects concerned with traffic safety to make the State of Qatar a role model to be followed in terms of security and safety at the global level. We are working together in order to achieve goals. The United Nations for sustainable development, which has been ratified by the State of Qatar, related to developing road networks, transport services, reducing congestion, transport planning, land use, and building smart cities.

In his speech, Brigadier Engineer Muhammad Abdullah Al-Maliki, Secretary and Member of the National Traffic Safety Committee said, 'The committee is concerned with drawing the general traffic policy and laying out plans, means and methods that develop traffic work in the country in all its technical, educational, organizational, legislative and medical aspects. In cooperation with public and private national institutions and since the formation of the National Traffic Safety Committee, all state institutions have cooperated together to find effective and serious solutions to reduce traffic problems, through the implementation of the action plans included in the "National Road Safety Strategy 2013-2022", as well as I have adopted a plan of action with a long-term vision in the field of road safety. "
In his comment, Dr. Muhammad Yusef Al-Qaradawi, Director of QU-CENG Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center said, 'In order to make this program a success and strive to upgrade the traffic safety system and encourage all individuals and government agencies with the aim of preserving human lives and property, valuable prizes have been allocated to everyone who contributes with an innovative idea, project or with an unprecedented new invention that serves the traffic safety system, contributes to spreading traffic awareness, and tries gradually to solve the problems facing the system. 
Dr. Nasser Abdul-Ghani Al Abdul-Ghani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Abdullah Abdul-Ghani Bros Toyota, said 'The launching of the traffic safety award is an important event in the State of Qatar, in order to promote best practices to protect road users and build a good framework for that to provide safety. Thanks to the efforts of the concerned authorities and those in charge of this event, that this initiative will be a success in order to achieve road safety for all.
