São Paulo – Analyses from the United Nations World tourism Organization (UNWTO) indicate that tourism is beginning to rebound around the world, as restrictions on travel ease and the industry adapts to the new reality ushered in by the pandemic. According to the UNWTO, 40% of destinations worldwide have loosened their grip on restrictions put in place in response to Covid-19.

The organization has been monitoring the pandemic's impact on the industry from the onset. Back on June 15, only 22% of destinations had eased restrictions. As of May 15, the rate was 3%. According to the UNWTO, the numbers point to a slow industry adaptation and a responsible resumption of activity. Only four destinations have completely lifted restrictions.

'The restart of tourism can be undertaken responsibly and in a way that safeguards public health while also supporting businesses and livelihoods,' UNWTO secretary-general Zurab Pololikashvili said.
