Qatar- 3 years of dignity and prosperity: Education sector excels, plays stellar role


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Unaffected by the three-year-long blockade on Qatar, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education not only succeeded in opening many government and private schools to meet the growing demand of seats but also launched universities of international standards.
The Ministry continues with the implementation of its strategy for 2017-2022, given it is the road map for developing a world class educational system. The strategy focuses on providing suitable training for teachers, who make major contribution in providing high quality education, and boosting the core values and traditions of the Qatari society at the same time.
There are also a host of programmes the Ministry is undertaking, including improving pre-school education, and linking higher education with the job market.
The aim of these programs and projects is to achieve the results of the Ministry's strategy and objectives, with a focus on raising the level of performance of students and their academic achievement and preparing them to move successfully between different stages of study, to achieve the internal and external efficiency of the education system.
In terms of higher education, there are over 24 higher education institutions in Qatar, including universities, colleges and institutes of international status in terms of academic and research programs and best practices.
The Lusail University, first Qatari national private university was launched in March 2020 offering a number of programmes for Qatari and expatriate students. 
The programmes include Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Oil and Gas Management, Bachelor of Marketing and Distribution Technology, Bachelor of French Studies and Bachelor of Teaching English.
An Indian university (a campus of Savitribai Phule Pune University in Qatar) is expected to open the forthcoming academic year 2020-21. The Ministry also received two more applications for opening international university of Far-East and Western countries.
The Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulwahed Ali Al Hammadi in September 2019 issued a Ministerial Decision to open seven new schools in the country to meet the growing demand of seats.
According to the decision, a primary school for boys opened in the Old Airport area called Ahmad bin Rashid Al Muraikhi Primary School for Boys;  a primary school for boys in the southern Muaither area called Muaither Primary School for Boys; a primary school for girls in Al Morra area, called Fatima bint Al Khattab Primary School for Girls, and a secondary school for girls in Al Wukair, called Al Wukair Secondary School for Girls.
The decision also called for the opening of a secondary school for girls in the Al Ebb area, called Al Ebb Secondary School for Girls, Al Hedaya School for Special Needs for Boys in a new Kindergarten Building in Al Hilal area, and Al Hedaya School for Special Needs for Boys and Girls in Bdayat Center Kindergarten Building in Al Sakhama Area.
The academic year 2019-20 witnessed the opening of five new schools for primary, preparatory and secondary levels in the areas of Al Wakrah, Muaither, Al Kheesa, Old Airport and Al Manaseer. 
In March 2019, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education allocated three government-owned land plots for the construction and operation of private schools.
The objective is to give a greater role to the private sector in the economic developmental projects in the State of Qatar. The three land plots were awarded on a competitive basis after studying and evaluating bids submitted by investors developing private schools and following a series of interviews before announcing the winning bids.
The allocation of the land comes in line with the efforts of Ministry of Education and Higher Education to provide diverse, innovative and high-quality educational opportunities for students and their parents.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced in August 2018 to open 14 new schools and kindergartens (KGs) will be opened in the academic year 2018-19.  
The new schools include 11 private schools and kindergartens and three public schools which provide more than 5,065 classrooms, bringing the number of public schools and kindergartens to 272, according to the figures issued in 2018. The number of private schools and kindergartens reached 282, with a total enrolment of 190,644 students.
The Ministry opened Qatar Science and Technology School under its plan for developing technical education and improving services for students with disabilities and for gifted students as well.
The Ministry ensured a number of things, including the capacity of classes, the availability of transport, the readiness of school cafeterias, as well as ensuring that maintenance was done for schools.
