Jordan- Ship loaded with 50K ton of diesel docks in Kingdom

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, May 28 (Petra) -- Minister of energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati, announced on Thursday the arrival of a ship loaded with 50,000 tons of diesel.
The shipment is the first of many as part of a bid to enhance the the Kingdom's strategic stock of oil derivatives, which will be stored in the Jordan Oil Terminals (JOT) company facilities in the Madona area.
In a statement to the press, Zawati said a 30,000 ton shipment of gasoline will arrive during the first week of this June, raising the level of strategic inventory in the Amman facilities by 24 percent.
The minister noted that storing the necessary quantities comes under a royal directive, stating that the Cabinet mandated the JOT company to launch a call for bids to purchase quantities of essential oil derivatives, to take advantage of the low global prices and raise Jordan's strategic stockpile.
She pointed out that the quantities imported to boost the stockpile were determined by the available capacities in the oil facilities, which amounted to 20,000 tons of 90-octane gasoline, 10,000 tons of 95-octane gasoline and 50,000 tons of diesel.
Zawati indicated that jet fuel and liquefied petroleum gas were not imported due to the lack of storage capacity.
The JOT's Director General Kholoud Mahasneh said the stockpile will only be used when needed or in emergency situations, while the operational stock will flow into the market on a daily basis.
