625 more patients test positive for COVID-19 in Afghanistan


(MENAFN) According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Tawhid Shakohmand, an official for the Afghan Public Health Ministry, the overall tally of the confirmed COVID-19 cases across the South Asian nation has risen to 12,456, as 625 more patients tested positive for the virus in the last 24-hour period.


The overwhelm majority of Afghanistan's confirmed cases were reported from the capital city of Kabul, where 360 of the newly-confirmed cases were registered, followed by Herat with 108 infections whereas the remaining 157 cases are from other regions of the country.

Shakohmand also stated that the national death toll from the most infectious coronavirus has jumped to 227, after 7 more fatalities were recorded in the past 24-hour period.

Since the COVID-19 has first hit Afghanistan in February, a number of 1,138 patients have survived the infection and been accordingly discharged from hospitals, including 10 reported in the last 24 hours, the official said.
