Pakistan- 5 injured in two firing incidents over land disputes


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Five people were injured in two different clashes over land dispute in Khyber and Kurram tribal districts on Saturday.

The first clash happened between the members of Akakhel tribe of Bara sub-division of Khyber tribal district and residents of Sheikhan area of Peshawar in which two persons were injured.

Local sources said there is a long standing dispute between the residents of Sheikhan area of Peshawar and Akakhel tribesmen of Bara over a piece of land near Bara bridge. The fresh clash happened when the people of Sheikhan area were working on the land which infuriated the Akakhel tribesmen. The Akakhel tribesmen blocked the Frontier Road for all kinds of traffic. The elders of Akakhel tribe said that the land is disputed and a case about this is running in the court. They said they will not allow any construction work on the disputed land till the court issues its orders on the ownership issue.

The Akakhel tribesmen alleged that the Sheikhan people are making intervention in the land in violation of the court order. They also clashed with the Sheikhan people in which two persons were injured.

The personnel of Bara Police immediately reached the spot and took the situation under its control. The policemen asked the parties to dispute to disperse peacefully as the court will decide the matter.

The second clash happened in Upper Kurram tribal district in which three persons were injured in an armed clash.

Local sources said heavy arms and rockets were also used by the rival groups against each other. The district administration said there is an old property dispute between two rival groups in Boshehra area of Parachinar. On Saturday the members of the two groups exchanged fire in which three people were injured.

The local administration, police and tribal elders intervened and managed to agree both parties on ceasing fire. The injured persons were shifted to local hospital, and one of them was later shifted to Peshawar due to his critical condition.

Tribal elder Haji Sardar said talks are underway to settle the dispute. The mobile phone signals were also blocked in the area after the firing incident. Deputy Commissioner Shah Fahad said the security personnel have removed the armed men of both groups from the area and they have taken situation under control. He said the matter will be thoroughly investigated.
