Sri Lanka- Considering of petitions on Elpitiya PS elections postponed

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Considering of petitions filed in the Supreme Court against holding the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections has been postponed to 24th September.

A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition was filed in the Supreme Court recently against holding the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections.

The petition was filed by three residents in Elpitiya.

They sought the intervention of the court to prevent the elections from taking place until a new nominations list is prepared.

An Extraordinary Gazette notification was to hold the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections on October 11, 2019.

The Supreme Court had last month ordered the Elections Commission to hold the elections of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha after accepting nominations by the Democratic United National Front (DUNF) which had earlier been rejected.
