Pakistan- Developing tourism: KP govt hands over 169 rest houses to TCKP

PESHAWAR: On the direction of Prime Minister Imran Khan a total of 168 government rest houses were handed over to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation (TCKP) to use it for tourism promotion in the country.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) senior minister for tourism, Culture sports and Youth affairs Muhammad Atif Khan said on Twitter that Prime minister Imran Khan is keen to open all the rest houses to public for booking as soon as possible including governor house, Karnak House, IG house, Chief Minister house and speaker house situation in scenic valleys of the province.


A total of 168 rest houses were handed over to TCKP out of which 56 were earlier under Communication and Works department (C & W), 20 rest houses were under the provincial irrigation department, 21 were under local government department, 1 was under Police, and a total of 70 rest houses were earlier under the jurisdiction of forest department.

A notification issued by the KP administrative department said that 'In pursuance to the decision of the Provincial Cabinet, KP Government is pleased to transfer the management along with human resource of government rest houses to the Tourism Department with immediate effect, for further renting out for tourism purpose to the general public.'

The concerned departments are directed to prepare an updated inventory of each rest house and accordingly finalize handing / taking over of these rest houses to TCKP. Whereas, for the time being, the concerned departments will pay the salaries and utilities of these rest houses.

The senior minister Atif Khan has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has issued directives to immediately open all such rest houses for the public to book it ahead of visiting the scenic valleys of the country.

The minister expressed the hope that it will be very helpful in promoting tourism in the country which is badly affected due to decades of wars and instability in the region.
