Oman calls for release of British oil tanked amid attempts to reduce tensions


(MENAFN) On Sunday, Oman asked Iran to release the U.K.-flagged oil tanker confiscated by Tehran depart, as an attempt to reduce increasing tension between the Islamic Republic and the UK.

Iran seized the British vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, a few weeks after London confiscated an Iranian-flagged oil tanker off Gibraltar, a British overseas territory that abuts southern Spain.

The Oman News Agency emphasized, citing a Foreign Ministry source, "The Sultanate of Oman calls on all parties to exercise self-restraint...for not exposing this region to risks impacting freedom of navigation".

The Gulf country continued to urge Tehran and London to end overcome the recent conflict by diplomatic discussions.
