Oman bans import of 15 dog breeds

Oman has banned the import of 15 dog breeds.

H E Dr Hamad bin Said bin Sulaiman al Aufi, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries issued a decision (No 222/2019) to ban the import of 15 breeds.

According to the decision, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has prohibited the import of breeds such as Pitbull, Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Mastiff, Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, Japanese Tosa, Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, Presa Canario, Boxer, Boerboel, Caucasian Shepherd Dog, Anatolian Karabash, Great Dane and any mixed breed of the above mentioned dogs.


The decision stated that the ROP and other security agencies are exempted from this ban.
The Ministerial Decision is based on the Veterinary Quarantine Law issued by Royal Decree 45/2004 and on the executive regulations of the veterinary quarantine law issued by the Ministerial Decision No 107/2008.

The decision was issued on July 3 and became effective from the same date.
