Petra marks 12 years as one of seven wonders of the world

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Petra, July 8 (Petra) -- The Petra Development and tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) marked the rose-red city's 12th anniversary as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
The celebration included artistic, lyrical and poetic segments performed by local artists, poets, the al-Rajaf band for the revival of heritage, and the Public Security Department's band, as well as a fireworks show.
The PDTRA set up 15,000 candles near key landmarks in Petra, while the roof of the Petra museum was lit up with the number 20 to commemorate his majesty King Abdullah's 20 anniversary of Ascension to the Throne.
Chief Commissioner of the PDTRA, Suleiman Farajat, said that celebrating Petra as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World is part of the authority's keenness to develop the city in terms of tourism, and marketing it across the world.
He pointed out the importance of developing services in the rose-red city, pointing to the efforts the PDTRA exerts to rehabilitate routes and guide signs, and train the staff of the archaeological reserve to provide the best services to visitors and protect the site.
He highlighted a number of projects nearing completion, namely the downtown and the heritage village projects, which will increase the stay of tourists and diversify the tourism product in the city of Petra.
