(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA, May 24 (KUNA) -- Qatar said Friday it spared no efforts to address challenges facing the Arab region that served interest of Arab people including the Palestinians.
The foreign ministry was reacting to an invitation the US sent to Qatar last Monday for an economic workshop in Manama, Bahrain, next month to discuss economic opportunities that a peace agreement might provide for Palestinians and people of the region.
"Qatar believes there are huge economic and investment opportunities related to structural problems in the economic and institutional structure of the regional countries, and they are linked with each other via regional and international geopolitical circumstances," it added.
Addressing these challenges, said the ministry in a statement, required good will, genuine efforts by regional and international players, and proper political cirucmstances.
These circumstances will not come into reality without a just political solution for the people of the region, including the Palestinian people who should see an end of the Israeli occupation, establish their independent and sovereign state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as it capital, in addition to right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes in line with UN resolutions.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, commenting on the workshop, refused the bargaining of the Palestinian national decision with money. "The Palestinian Authority's financial crisis is the result of a financial war whose aim is to blackmail," he added.
Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rudainah said the workshop was "useless" unless it consisted political and economic outcome. "The Palestinians will not accept any proposal without establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital," he said. (end)
