Afghanistan: 45 die in clashes within 24 hours


(MENAFN) Authorities declared that over five security forces and about 40 Taliban militants have died in gunfights in Afghanistan within the past 24 hours.

Afghan Ministry of Defense confirmed that 3 Afghan army troopers, two policemen and four militants have died after Afghan security forces retaliated against an attack by Taliban on remote Shamulzay district in southern province of Zabul Tuesday night.

The ministry added that intense gunfights erupted after the security forces retaliated against the enemy's plot to claim control over the remote district, in southeast of provincial capital Qalat city.

More than 17 militants have been injured in the clashes in the district, bordering Pakistan.
