(MENAFN) Tunisian media reported a boat carrying illegal migrants to have sunk off Sfax coast in southeastern Tunisia.
Due to the incident, 70 illegal migrants were pronounced dead while 16 others were saved, Tunisian national news agency reported on Friday.
This comes as sub-Saharan Africans left Libya in an attempt to enter Italian coasts.
According to the report, "the survivors were rescued by Tunisian fishing boats."
It further added that the death toll is expected to rise, with the Tunisian navy engaged in a search operation.
