Iran, Switzerland escalate efforts to boost ties

(MENAFN) Switzerland was announced to be planning to inaugurate a financial channel with Iran as part of intensified efforts to boost trade and banking cooperation between the two sides.

On Friday, talks were held between the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) governor AbdolNasser Hemmati and the Swiss ambassador to Tehran Markus Leitner.

During the meeting, the Iranian governor affirmed "the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the efforts of the Swiss government."

Hemmati noted "the promotion of trade with Switzerland is in the interests of both countries."

He further added "the Swiss efforts to open the banking channel between the two sides can be seen as a positive sign to align its international trade and financial policies on the basis of mutual interests, not on the basis of external pressure. This process must be supported and strengthened."
