Apple to upgrade front and rear cameras on 2019 iPhones
20 Apr 2019

In a bid to take on competitors like Google, Samsung, and Huawei, Apple is finally pulling up its socks to upgrade the upcoming flagship phones with improved cameras.

According to Ming Chi Kuo, a long-time Apple analyst, the 2019 iPhones will get higher resolution selfie cameras.

Notably, all upcoming models are said to get rear camera updates as well.

Here's everything to know.

The latest batch of iPhones will offer 12MP selfie cameras
Updrages

According to Kuo, all three upcoming iPhones will feature 12MP front cameras - a significant upgrade from the 7MP selfie snapper found on the iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xs, and iPhone Xr.

Kuo's note also highlights that the camera lens will be a 5P unit as against a 4P lens on the existing models.

Surely, improved optics should allow for better selfie images.

Kuo has also revealed the details of the rear cameras
Highlight

Kuo has claimed that the successors to the premium iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max models with 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED displays, respectively, will sport triple rear camera setup.

This newly adopted camera setup, touted to be the highlight feature of the upcoming iPhones, is said to comprise a 12MP telephoto lens, 12MP wide-angle lens, and another 12MP super-wide-angle lens supplied by Sony.

Successor to iPhone Xr will get a dual camera setup
Fact

The lower-cost LCD iPhone Xr will also get an update with a dual rear camera setup, according to Kuo. However, he has not given the specifications of this setup. To recall, the 2018 iPhone Xr comes with a single 12MP wide angle lens.

Apple to hide camera design flaw with "black lens-coating technology"
Design concerns

Separately, a couple of credible leaks suggest that the upcoming premium iPhones (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max) will sport a square-ish, bumpy triple camera setup on the top-left corner.

However, Kuo claims that the rear super-wide-angle lens and front camera lens on these phones will adopt "black lens-coating technologies," which will make the lenses look "inconspicuous".

Meanwhile, iPhone 11 will also support reverse wireless charging
New tech

Meanwhile, according to Macotakara, iPhone 11 will support two-way wireless charging - a feature we've already seen on Galaxy S10 flagships and Huawei flagships.

The report notes that the next iPhone will be able to wirelessly charge devices like AirPods and Apple Watch.

Notably, the all new AirPods 2 also feature a wireless charging case, suggesting iPhone 11 would offer reverse wireless charging.
