Amman, April 14 (Petra) - The International Conference on "National, Regional and International Mechanisms to Combat Impunity and Ensure Accountability under International Law", organized by Qatar's National Human Rights Commission, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (NHRC) and the European Parliament, kicked off in Doha, with the participation of Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni.

The two-day conference will review the relevant principles of international law, particularly the Basic Principles and Guidelines on the Right to a Remedy and Reparation for Victims of Gross Violations of International Human Rights Law, and the updated set of principles for the protection and promotion of human rights, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

During the conference, Talhouni said the Jordanian Constitution enshrines the principles of justice and equality since its declaration in 1952 and guarantees the basic principles of human rights as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the subsequent treaties and agreements.

The 1991 Jordanian National Charter also affirms Jordan's commitment to human rights and political pluralism, the minister noted, adding it defines Jordan as a democratic state that adheres to the principle of the rule of law and derives its legitimacy from the free will of the people and is committed to providing legal, judicial and administrative guarantees for the protection of human rights and fundamental dignity and freedoms.
