(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Around a dozen children from the paediatric oncology ward of The Royal Hospital were treated to a Big Bus tour organised by the I-Wish charity foundation.
Children under treatment for cancer at the hospital, along with their mothers and medical practitioners, boarded the bus that toured Muttrah passing along the scenic city landscapes along Wadi Kabir, the corniche and old Muscat.
'It's a short trip, and it's a good diversion for these children who are stuck in the routine of treatments,' said a staff nurse Sameera who was with the children on the bus.
Talking about the safety procedures onboard the bus she added, 'All emergency precautions were been taken to ensure that the children were in a sterile and safe environment.'
Puja Khimji from the charity foundation I-Wish explained how these children are usually not allowed to go out into public places because of low immunity. 'So this idea of a city tour in a bus turned out to be one that factored in all the risks, especially since they are in an enclosed, contained space with the doctors and nurses accompanying the children incase of an emergency.'
The foundation has been actively working among the young cancer patients at The Royal Hospital for over six years.
Many of the young cancer patients receiving treatment at the hospital usually are from the interiors, said Karen Van de Ruit from I-Wish. 'They probably haven't seen Muscat. When Krupa Khimji from Mosaic Events suggested the idea of a bus tour for the children, it seemed like a refreshing idea for the kids,' Karen added.
The tour was supported by Big Bus Tour and Travel Point Oman. 'A small collaboration like this can make a huge difference and it's encouraging to see organisations come together for a good cause,' said Krupa.
