Thai election: still counting votes

(MENAFN) The party related to Thailand's self-exiled former leader Thaksin Shinawatra has opened negotiations with other anti-junta parties to try to form a government.

Only partial results have been announced from Sunday's poll, making it obvious that it is unlikely to come out before Friday.

According to Pheu Thai secretary-general, the votes cast for anti-junta parties indicated the support to go back to democratic rule and that must be respected.

He said: "From today, we will start negotiating with other parties (to form a government)".

The country's pro-army Palang Pracharat party said it intends to create a government after winning the most votes in the country's first election since a 2014 coup.
