CBD steps up efforts for African ecosystem

(MENAFN) The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is stepping up its efforts towards the reinstatement of ecosystem in the African continent, affirmed its deputy executive secretary David Cooper.

CBD official confirmed "we are accelerating commitments for ecosystem restoration to improve resilience in the region."

This comes on the sidelines of the 4th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-4) being held in Nairobi while CBD is looking to launch programs for tackling climate change among other challenges.

Cooper stated "we are urging UN member countries to meet the climate change initiatives that include carbon sequestration through their nationally determined contributions (NDC) to help protect land degradation and restore ecosystem, water supply, restore coral reefs and prevent soil erosion."
