Bahraini soccer player to be out of Thailand's jail soon

(MENAFN) Thailand has decided to release an imprisoned Bahraini soccer player with Australian residency after Manama dropped a request for his extradition, a prosecutor in the case affirms.

Hakeem al-Araibi, 25, was detained over two months ago at a Bangkok airport while on a honeymoon visit after an Interpol notice released at Bahrain's request.

Araibi has been sentenced in his country of birth, Bahrain, to 10 years in prison for charges connected to the 2011 revolution against the ruling Al Khalifah regime.

However, Chatchom Akapin, an official in the Thai Attorney-General's office, emphasized the footballer will be out of jail by the end of Monday.
