(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has briefed President Ashraf Ghani on his swing through the region.
Ghani received Khalilzad on Tuesday evening, according to a statement from the Presidential Palace, which said several government officials were present on the occasion.
Vice-Presidents Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum and Sarwar Danish, Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah, members of the negotiating team for peace talks and other political leaders attended the meeting.
Khalilzad presented the participants with details of his trips to China, the United Arab Emirates and India. He would continue efforts to create a regional consensus on the Afghan peace process;
The special envoy also promised continued attempts at facilitating negotiations between Kabul and Taliban . Khalilzad answered questions from the participants of the meeting.
Ghani thanked the ambassador for his efforts to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table. He claimed there was consensus among all Afghans on peace. Both sides stressed the need for Afghan-led peace parleys.
