DOHA: The Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, visited the newly-launched Qatar Motor Academy (QMA) where he met with young riders at Losail International Circuit (LIC).

The Minister lauded Losail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC) for the launching the academy, saying QMA offers the best opportunity for children to enjoy riding bikes.

The establishment of the academy is a three-way process among LCSC who joined hands with Dorna Sports and Aspire Academy to start teaching young children.

The academy was officially launched on October 26 at LIC during the WorldSBK Pirelli Qatar Round.

The Minister said QMA was the perfect place for young bike enthusiasts to learn about riding. He added Qatar fully backs young talent picking up the right lessons from experts in every sport.

The Minister was informed that 71 entries out of 211 had been retained after the initial stage of screening carried out by QMA.

He pointed out that ‘QMA is one of the initiatives offered by Qatar and welcomes all citizens and residents'.

The minister said 24 Qatari children joining the Academy out of 71 entries represents a remarkable success for the country that excels in motor sports. He expressed optimism that the next season will see more new participants.

The Minister added the academy aims to create better relationships with other academies around the world to hopefully one day get names like Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, Qatar's premier rally star with two Dakar Tally titles under his belt. He said that QMA is expected to attract competitors from overseas in the future as it will offer appropriate training weather for European drivers during the winter season.

The aim of the academy is to nurture young riding talent in Qatar and the region, Khalid Al Remaihi, Vice President and General Manager LCSC, said.

Al Remaihi said the number of Qataris joining the academy is increasing with each day.

Earlier in the week, the Minister of Culture and Sports said that Qatar Superstock 600 will be the best in the Middle East in the next few years.

Speaking on the sidelines during the first round of the hugely popular championship, the Minister said that Qatar has the ability to make this event the biggest in the region through increasing the investments and attracting big names to the country.

He said the organisers want the championship to develop every season to achieve sustainability through high turnout participation. In the first round, riders from Kuwait, Hungary and Australia featured in the two races.
