(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The National Youth Commission (NYC) honoured the winners of Yashhadoon competition on Tuesday.

The event was held under the patronage of Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidi, assistant director general for arts in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, at the National Youth Commission building in Ghala.

NYC launched the Yashhadoon project in 2017 in order to strengthen the commitment of youth to the cultural and historical heritage of the sultanate, said Ahmed al Rashdi, project manager.

He said, 'The project also aims to develop youths' capabilities to identify historical treasures and cultural heritage of Oman.'

NYC prepared a programme for assisting youth where they hone their skills in writing, photography and documentation of oral history.

These youth teams spend time in some wilayats and meet old people to record oral traditions and descriptions on the construction of fortresses, castles and the maintenance of Oman's aflaj, proverbs and sayings and social traditions, etc.

Rashdi added, 'More than 30 youth participated in this competition held in Buraimi governorate. Four teams were from Buraimi, four from Dhahirah governorate, while two teams participated from the wilayat of Izki (in Dakhliyah).

'The first and second winners were from the wilayat of Ibri (in Dhahirah) and the third from the wilayat of Izki.'

Rahma al Maamri from the winning team said, 'Our team made a short film about Al Salif castle in the wilayat of Ibri. We met with an elderly person. He gave us a lot of information about building of the castle.'
